ATLANTA (Wednesday, December 15, 2021) HBCU All-Stars LLC has announced HBCU All-Stars “Player of the Week and Team of the Week” honors featuring the nation’s top HBCU student-athletes from the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton Universities.
This week’s winners from December 5th-12th, 2021:
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Player of the Week (Ben Wallace Power Forward): Deaquan Williams, South Carolina State University
Led his team with 12 points and 5 rebounds in big victory vs. High Point University on the road
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Team of the Week:
Win vs. High Point on the road for two-game winning streak
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Player of the Week (Rick Mahorn Center): Brison Gresham, Texas Southern University
Had 8 points and 13 rebounds in school’s historic 69-54 win vs. #20 ranked Florida
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Team of the Week:
First SWAC school to beat a ranked team in the AP poll era with a 69-54 victory vs. #20 ranked Florida out of the SEC
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I Independent HBCU Player of the Week (Rick Mahorn Center):
Najee Garvin, Hampton University (Back to Back Winner)
Averaged 21.5 points per game and led his team to a tough road win this week
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I Independent Team of the Week
Finished 2-0 with back to back victories this week
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II CIAA Player of the Week
(Bobby Dandridge Small Forward):
Averaged 21.5 points this week in two games and had 10 rebounds in one of the games
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II CIAA Team of the Week:
Team has a three-game winning streak and finished 3-0 for the week
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Team of the Week:
Team went 2-0 again this week and currently has a five-game winning streak
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Player of the Week (Earl “The Pearl” Monroe): Tim Bing, Benedict College
Averaged 17.5 points per game and led team to 2-0 record this week

Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, and former Head Coach at two prestigious HBCUs (Tennessee State and Fort Valley State University): “The nation is witnessing some of the most historic Black College Basketball being played across the country from our distinguished, talented, and hard-working teams, players, coaches, and support staff. Our men’s basketball programs are playing at such a very high level with huge upsets recently at the University of Florida in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and South Florida in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), and quality victories against mid-major basketball programs and conferences, including Illinois State in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), William & Mary and University of North Carolina-Wilmington in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), IUPUI in the Horizon League Conference, along with Lipscomb University in the ASUN.”
HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week selections will continue highlighting HBCU legends Dick Barnett Point Guards, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guards, Bobby Dandridge Small Forwards, Ben Wallace Power Forwards, and Rick Mahorn Centers.
The 2022 HBCU All-Star Game, a college basketball showcase highlighting the best HBCU players in the country, will be held at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 PM, ET.

The HBCU All-Star Game, which begins this season, will feature the best talent from the four Historically Black Athletic Conferences, representing the legendary coaches Team John McClendon (MEAC & SIAC) and Team Clarence “Big House” Gaines (SWAC & CIAA) along with Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities. The game will be held annually on the Sunday of Final Four weekend in the host city.
The HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on Paramount+.
