HBCU All-Star Game set for Sunday, April 2 in Houston, Texas and airing on CBS Television Network
HOUSTON (March 18, 2023) – The HBCU All-Star Game, will take place on Sunday, April 2 in Houston, Texas at the prestigious Texas Southern University H&PE Arena at 3 p.m. CST, and feature four premier HBCU NCAA Division I and II conferences in the country. The game will consist of the nation’s top 24 players who will make up the rosters named after two HBCU Legends, Team Willis Reed versus Team Dick Barnett. The game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on Paramount+.
“I am truly excited in year #2 to offer free student tickets “first come, first served” and extend ticket deadline to midnight Monday, March 20th for all elementary, middle, high school, and college students with a valid ID to this historic game on the beautiful campus of Texas Southern University. This will be a great opportunity for the students to witness Black excellence, Black history, and Black cultural experiences up close and personal with the 2023 HBCU All-Stars,” said HBCU All-Stars LLC Founder and CEO Travis L. Williams. “This is love for all of our students, giving back to our community outreach and scholarship initiatives, engaging with the youth, providing unbelievable HBCU Basketball movement, and celebrating the Best in Black College Basketball. History in the making and first time ever that an HBCU All-Star Game will be played on a HBCU campus at TSU H&PE Arena. It is very important to play this historic HBCU All-Star Game in a sold-out arena with a big-time basketball atmosphere. As always, I am just being obedient to this GOD-driven vision that was founded in 2019, and it has been a long journey and dream come true to get to this point. We will continue honoring and celebrating the rich history, tradition, and contributions of HBCUs to the sport of college basketball.”
With a mission to advocate, educate, expose, mentor, and invest in HBCU students, student-athletes and coaches across the country, the event aims to showcase the “Best in Black College Basketball.” Launched by HBCU All-Stars LLC, a Black-owned sports marketing, events, and media company in Atlanta, the HBCU All-Star Game brings much needed E.A.R. (Exposure, Access, Recognition) and O.R.R. (Opportunities, Resources, Results) to outstanding, talented, ambitious, and hardworking HBCU students, student-athletes and brilliant coaches and celebrate Black Excellence, Black History, and Black Cultural Experiences at the highest level.
Team Willis Reed is comprised of players who compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA),
while Team Dick Barnett will be made up of players who competed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and INDEPENDENT schools representing Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities.
