According to Travis L. Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, “For the past three months we have seen some of the best basketball and nation’s top players and coaches in the country playing this season and our 49 prestigious HBCUs in the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, and Independent teams, Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities continue to shine on a weekly basis. I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the teams, coaches, student-athletes, students, universities and athletic departments, staff, faculty, alums, fans and supporters and it is great seeing the fans, students, and alumni support at the games this year on our HBCU All-Stars Tours to campuses. They are celebrating Black excellence on and off the court.
In week #12, we are beginning to see other teams come out of the shadows and winning in a big way. In the CIAA, Lincoln University (PA), is in first place and leads the Northern Division, along with Claflin University leading the Southern Division. Benedict College has climbed back in first place in the SIAC East Division and Miles College still holding on in the West Division. Grambling State, Southern, and Alabama State Universities with three-way tie in the SWAC, with Texas Southern University closing in as well. The MEAC is in a 2-way battle at the top with North Carolina Central and Norfolk State Universities. South Carolina and Delaware State Universities are one game away for a four-way tie. This is a crucial stretch of the season for all of these very talented and well-coached teams vying for the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, OVC, and CAA regular season and conference tournament championships.
On another very important note, we have announced the official team names honoring the legendary HBCU and NBA playing careers of Rick Mahorn, Hampton University and Ben Wallace, Virginia Union University for the third annual HBCU All-Star Game at Grand Canyon on Sunday, April 7. This is our way of showing love, respect, and appreciation to them paving the way for the HBCU All-Stars and HBCU All-Star Game Movement. We are very excited to highlight their extraordinary HBCU careers at Hampton and Virginia Union Universities and in the NBA with our CBS Sports partners leading up the HBCU All-Star Game.”
Our HBCU All-Stars national scouting staff has done an amazing job of getting out to the HBCU campuses and evaluating the nation’s top 65 HBCU players on our watch list. Also, the HBCU All-Stars tour continues to represent the HBCU All-Stars basketball movement at the highest level every week. We are less than 90 days and need you to get your tickets for this historic third annual HBCU All-Star Game at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on Sunday, April 7.”
HBCU All-Stars LLC will honor the illustrious playing careers of Alvin Attles Jr., North Carolina A&T State University (CIAA), John Chaney, Bethune-Cookman University (SIAC), Leonard Eugene “Truck” Robinson, Tennessee State University (Independent), Robert Earl “Bob” Love, Southern University (SWAC), Zelmo “Big Z” Beaty, Prairie View A&M University (SWAC). We will recognize their impact on our HBCU basketball culture during the 2023-24 basketball season and host the third annual HBCU All-Star Game at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.
