According to Travis L. Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, “Week #16 proved to be the difference maker and final week for the regular season CIAA championships and All-Conference student-athletes receiving honors for the 2023-24 basketball season. The CIAA started their conference tournament championships this week in Baltimore. A number of SIAC teams have one more remaining game that could determine the regular season championship and bragging rights in the SIAC. Lincoln University (PA) finished in first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA and Claflin finished in first place in the Southern Division of the CIAA. Clark Atlanta (22-4) is in first place and has won the regular season East Division Championship of the SIAC at (15-5). Miles College (20-5) is in first place in the West Division (15-5) with an eight-game winning streak.
Grambling State University is in first place (14-13) and (11-3 league) and on a three-game winning streak after a big road win over in-state rival Southern University. Norfolk State University (18-9) (8-2 league play) has put some distance between first place and sits solely in this position with three teams tied for second place. Tennessee State University (17-12 and 10-6 in OVC) is currently in 5th place with a two-game winning streak during the final stretch of their season before conference tournament play. What a remarkable regular season for so many of our HBCU teams that have been playing at a very high level with heart, intensity, enthusiasm, and will to win on and off the basketball court since the beginning of the 2023-24 basketball season began in November.”
HBCU All-Stars LLC will honor the illustrious playing careers of Alvin Attles Jr., North Carolina A&T State University (CIAA), John Chaney, Bethune-Cookman University (SIAC), Leonard Eugene “Truck” Robinson, Tennessee State University (Independent), Robert Earl “Bob” Love, Southern University (SWAC), Zelmo “Big Z” Beaty, Prairie View A&M University (SWAC). Each of these amazing HBCU legends made their mark in this great game of basketball and reached the highest level of success in the NBA. We will recognize their impact on our HBCU basketball culture during the 2023-24 basketball season and host the third annual HBCU All-Star Game at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.
The HBCU All-Star Game is far more than a basketball game. HBCU All-Stars LLC will stage the HBCU All-Star Game Experience, a week-long festival that will kick off the week on Tuesday, April 2, and conclude the following Tuesday after the Championship game, April 9. It will celebrate the HBCU Experience and will be highlighted by an HBCU All-Stars College Admissions Fair, Community Outreach and Engagement, Pro Day Combine, Welcome Reception, Awards Ceremony, and Social Justice & Civil Rights panel discussion.
