Atlanta (Wednesday, March 9, 2022) – HBCU All-Stars LLC has announced HBCU All-Stars “Player
of the Week and Team of the Week” honors featuring the nation’s top HBCU student-athletes from the
MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T and Hampton Universities.
This week’s winners from February 28 – March 6, 2022:
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Team of the Week
Norfolk State University
A four-time winner, the Spartans went 2-0 and captured the MEAC Regular Season Championship with a
12-2 record (21-6 overall). They put an exclamation point on their final regular season games with
resounding wins over NCCU (75-46) and Howard (83-61). Norfolk will head into the tournament as the
No. 1 seed with a three-game winning streak.
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Player of the Week
(Rick Mahorn Center) Lagio Grantsaan, Morgan State University
A two-time winner, Grantsaan led the Bears to two wins over UMES (82-48) and intercity rival Coppin
(63-59). He averaged 13.5 points and 8 rebounds. He also shot 44% from the field and 50% from the
three-point line.
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Team of the Week
Alcorn State University
A four-time winner, Alcorn State went undefeated (3-0) and won the SWAC regular season
championship. They will be the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament this week with a six-game
winning streak. With wins against Texas Southern (75-72), MVSU (72-69) and Arkansas PB (100-77),
the Braves are the team to beat as the SWAC Tournament begins this week.
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Player of the Week Co-Winner
(Rick Mahorn Center) Lenell Henry, Alcorn State University
A two-time winner, Henry led the Braves to a 3-0 record, while securing the SWAC regular season
championship. He averaged 10 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 44% from the field.

HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Player of the Week Co-Winner
(Rick Mahorn Center) Brison Gresham, Texas Southern University
A three-time winner, Gresham averaged a “double-double) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 77%
from the field.

HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I Independent Player of the Week
(Rick Mahorn Center) Najee Garvin, Hampton University
A four-time winner, Garvin scored 15 points and shot 5 of 11 from the field while grabbing 13 rebounds.
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Team of the Week
Savannah State University
The Tigers captured the SIAC Tournament Championship with four wins during the week. They beat
Lane (60-50), Tuskegee (61-50), Morehouse (60-59) and knocked off perennial power Benedict (76-62)
in the Championship. SSU is now heading to the Division II National Tournament.
HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Player of the Week
(Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guard) Trey Deloach, Savannah State University
In helping lead the Tigers to the SIAC Tournament Championship, Deloach, a two-winner Player of the
Week selection, averaged 10.3 points and 7.6 rebounds. He also had seven blocks and three steals during
the tournament.
According to Travis L. Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, and former Head Coach at two
prestigious HBCUs (Tennessee State and Fort Valley State University): “We are 25 days away from
hosting the first-ever, historical and impactful HBCU All-Star Game in college basketball during Final
Four Weekend in New Orleans. The CIAA & SIAC Tournament Championship are complete with
Fayetteville State & Savannah State University capturing their respective championships and now getting
ready to play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Now we have a full week to watch our
SWAC and MEAC teams compete in Birmingham, AL and Norfolk, VA for their Conference
Tournament Championships. We look forward to a strong finish with these teams. We are also very
excited about this historic event and look forward to supporting some of the nation’s best players in Black

college basketball from our distinguished 48 teams and prestigious HBCUs across the country. Our hard-
working, talented, and ambitious student-athletes, outstanding teams and coaches are working hard on a

weekly basis.”
HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week selections will continue highlighting HBCU legends Dick Barnett
Point Guards, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guards, Bobby Dandridge Small Forwards, Ben
Wallace Power Forwards, and Rick Mahorn Centers.

The 2022 HBCU All-Star Game, a college basketball showcase highlighting the best HBCU players in
the country, will be held at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 PM, ET.

The HBCU All-Star Game, which begins this season, will feature the best talent from the four Historically
Black Athletic Conferences, representing the legendary coaches Team John McClendon (MEAC &
SIAC) and Team Clarence “Big House” Gaines (SWAC & CIAA) along with Tennessee State, Hampton,
and North Carolina A&T State Universities. The game will be held annually on the Sunday of Final Four
weekend in the host city.
The HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on
Paramount+.
