HBCU ALL-STARS “CELEBRATING THE BEST IN BLACK COLLEGE BASKETBALL” ANNOUNCES PLAYER OF THE WEEK & TEAM OF THE WEEK HONORS
Inaugural HBCU All-Star Game to be held at UNO Lakefront Arena on Sunday, April 3, 2022 Black History, Black Excellence & Black Cultural Experiences
ATLANTA (Wednesday, January 19, 2022) HBCU All-Stars LLC has announced HBCU All-Stars “Player of the Week and Team of the Week” honors featuring the nation’s top HBCU student-athletes from the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton Universities.
This week’s winners from January 10, 2022 – January 16, 2022:
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Team of the Week
Very impressive win at home versus Delaware State (81-50) and on the road at Howard University (77-74) to go (2-0) in the MEAC.
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Player of the Week
(Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guard) Kyle Foster, Howard University
Although Howard University came up short versus Norfolk State University, Foster shot 60% from the 3 pt. line (6-9). He ranks in the top 15 in three-point percentage and had 22 points, nine rebounds, and 2 assists.
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Team of the Week
Alcorn State went (2-0) with good wins on the road at Alabama State University (70-60) and home versus Texas Southern University (73-72), extending its winning streak to four games.
FAMU finished the week (2-0) and beat Grambling State University at home (75-66) and on the road at the University of Arkansas–Pine Bluff (71-66)
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Player of the Week
(Dick Barnett Point Guard) Justin Thomas, Alcorn State University
Thomas averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 6 rebounds per game in two wins for Alcorn State at Alabama State University (70-60) and home versus Texas Southern University (73-72). In two games, Thomas has shot 12-17 from the field.
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Player of the Week
(Rick Mahorn Center) Darian “DJ” Jones, Florida A&M University
Jones averaged 12 points per game and 9.5 rebounds in two wins and helped the team finish the week (2-0), beating Grambling State University at home (75-66) and winning on the road at the University of Arkansas–Pine Bluff in OT (71-66)
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I Independent Team of the Week North Carolina A&T State University Finished the week (1-1) with a big home win (67-59) versus rival Hampton University
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division Independent Player of the Week (Bobby Dandridge Small Forward) Kassim Nicholson, Tennessee State University
- Nicholson dominated in the past two games and averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 11 rebounds per game.
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II CIAA Team of the Week Virginia Union University
- Went (2-0) for the week with two wins on the road versus rival Virginia State University (88-70) and Claflin University (74-56). VUU improved to 11-3 and 4-0 in the CIAA and now has a three-game winning streak
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II CIAA Player of the Week
(Bobby Dandridge Small Forward) Jordan Peebles, Virginia Union University
Averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds per game in two road wins at Virginia State University (88-70) and Claflin University (74-56)
(Rick Mahorn Center) Navar Elmore, Livingstone College
Averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds per game in 2 wins versus Bowie State (74-61) at home and on the road at Claflin University (70-67)
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Team of the Week Morehouse College
- The Tigers went 3-0, with wins over Central State University (95-54), Kentucky State University (80-62) and Benedict College (86-79) and currently have a seven-game winning streak.
- HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Player of the Week
- (Bobby Dandridge Small Forward) Noah Morgan, Morehouse College
- In three wins, Morgan averaged 16 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to help his team extend their seven-game winning streak.

Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, and former Head Coach at two prestigious HBCUs (Tennessee State and Fort Valley State University): “We are less than 80 Days from the first ever HBCU All-Star Game during Final Four Weekend in New Orleans. The MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton Universities are in full championship mode and the conference standings are heating up. We look forward to showcasing some of the nation’s best players in black college basketball from these distinguished 48 teams competing at our prestigious HBCUs across the country. Our hard-working, talented, and ambitious student-athletes, outstanding teams and coaches are working hard on a weekly basis.”
HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week selections will continue highlighting HBCU legends Dick Barnett Point Guards, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guards, Bobby Dandridge Small Forwards, Ben Wallace Power Forwards, and Rick Mahorn Centers.
The 2022 HBCU All-Star Game, a college basketball showcase highlighting the best HBCU players in the country, will be held at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 PM, ET.

The HBCU All-Star Game, which begins this season, will feature the best talent from the four Historically Black Athletic Conferences, representing the legendary coaches Team John McClendon (MEAC & SIAC) and Team Clarence “Big House” Gaines (SWAC & CIAA) along with Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities. The game will be held annually on the Sunday of Final Four weekend in the host city.
The HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on Paramount+.
