HBCU ALL-STARS “CELEBRATING THE BEST IN BLACK COLLEGE BASKETBALL” ANNOUNCES PLAYER OF THE WEEK & TEAM OF THE WEEK HONORS

Inaugural HBCU All-Star Game to be held at UNO Lakefront Arena  on Sunday, April 3, 2022 Black History, Black Excellence & Black Cultural Experiences

ATLANTA (Wednesday, January 26, 2022) HBCU All-Stars LLC has announced HBCU All-Stars “Player of the Week and Team of the Week” honors featuring the nation’s top HBCU student-athletes from the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton Universities.  

This week’s winners from January 17, 2022 – January 23, 2022:

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Team of the Week 

Norfolk State University (Back-to-Back Winner)

Two outstanding conference wins on the road at University of Maryland Eastern Shore (72-58) and at home versus Coppin State University (84-77). 

Miller scored 22 points and made15 of 17 free throws on the road versus Delaware State University.

HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I MEAC Player of the Week Co-Winner

(Ben Wallace Power Forward) Randall Brumant – Howard University 

Brumant played very tough in a close loss to Notre Dame (71-68), scoring 6 points on 3-3 shooting from the field, along with 6 rebounds. He also had 22 points, shooting 10-12 from the field in a (91-82) win versus Morgan State University.

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Team of the Week Co-Winner

Florida A&M University (Back-to-Back Winner)

FAMU went (2-0) for the week and won at Miss Valley State University (78-70) and at home versus Alcorn State (70-68) 

HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SWAC Team of the Week Co-Winner                 Prairie View A&M University 

Prairie View A&M went (2-0) and won at Alcorn State University (74-73) and at home versus Alabama State University (70-67) 

Daniels averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds, and led his team to two conference wins for the week.

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I Independent Team of the Week 

Tennessee State University (Two-Time Winner)

The Tigers won 2 conference games at home versus Tennessee Tech (80-64) and Austin Peay (65-61).

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I HBCU Independent Player of the Week 

(Bobby Dandridge Small Forward) Kassim Nicholson – Tennessee State University (Three-Time Winner)

Nicholson averaged 12.3 points per game and 7 rebounds in three games to go (2-1) for the week.

Went (2-0) for the week with conference wins at home versus Fayetteville State University (81-77) and at home against Johnson C Smith University (90-72). 

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II CIAA Player of the Week                  

(Rick Mahorn Center) Navar Elmore – Livingstone College (Two-Time Winner)

Elmore averaged 16.5 points per game, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks in two conference wins. He leads the CIAA in blocks and ranks 7th in the nation in DII. 

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division I SIAC Team of the Week Co-Winners

Miles College

Miles finished the week (2-0) and won at home versus Kentucky State University (76-52) and on the road at Spring Hill College (87-58). Miles extended their win streak to seven games for an overall 8-1 conference record.

LeMoyne-Owen College 

LeMoyne-Owen College went (2-0) and won at home versus Central State University (93-86) and on the road at Tuskegee University in Double OT (97-93) for a three-game winning streak.

  • HBCU All-Stars NCAA Division II SIAC Player of the Week Co-Winners        (Earl “The Pearl Shooting Guard) Tim Bing – Benedict College (Two-Time Winner)

In two conference wins, Bing averaged 21 points per game and 6 assists in an (86-77) road win at Albany State University and an (80-74) victory at home versus Savannah State University.

In two conference wins, Lawrence averaged 16.5 points per game, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks (93-86). In the team’s Double OT win (97-93) versus Tuskegee, Lawrence had 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks.

Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, and former Head Coach at two prestigious HBCUs (Tennessee State and Fort Valley State University): “We are two-and-a-half months from the first-ever HBCU All-Star Game during Final Four Weekend in New Orleans. This is an exciting time leading up to Championship season with conference play and rivalry games in The MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC, Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton Universities.  All of our outstanding teams are vying for the top spots and competing to win their regular season and conference tournament championships. We look forward to showcasing some of the nation’s best players in black college basketball from these distinguished 48 teams competing at our prestigious HBCUs across the country. Our hard-working, talented, and ambitious student-athletes, outstanding teams and coaches are working hard on a weekly basis.”

HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week selections will continue highlighting HBCU legends Dick Barnett Point Guards, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe Shooting Guards, Bobby Dandridge Small Forwards, Ben Wallace Power Forwards, and Rick Mahorn Centers.

The 2022 HBCU All-Star Game, a college basketball showcase highlighting the best HBCU players in the country, will be held at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 PM, ET. 

Tickets for the game are available now and can be purchased through UNO Lakefront Arena here and at www.arena.uno.edu.

The HBCU All-Star Game, which begins this season, will feature the best talent from the four Historically Black Athletic Conferences, representing the legendary coaches Team John McClendon (MEAC & SIAC) and Team Clarence “Big House” Gaines (SWAC & CIAA) along with Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities.  The game will be held annually on the Sunday of Final Four weekend in the host city.

The HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on Paramount+.
