According to Travis L. Williams, HBCU All-Stars, LLC Founder/CEO, “Week 13 did not disappoint and there has been some high-level Black college basketball being played throughout the week. The teams, coaches, and student-athletes are playing with a sense of urgency as we enter the final six weeks of the season. Lincoln University (PA) still sits at the top in the Northern Division of the CIAA and in first place with a five-game winning streak. Fayetteville State University is now in first place in the Southern Division of the CIAA, with a three-game winning streak. Morehouse College (16-7) has climbed back in first place (13-3) in the SIAC East Division, and on a four-game winning streak. Clark Atlanta (18-3) is one of the hottest teams in the SIAC and has an 11-game winning streak and (12-3) in league play. Miles College (15-5) is playing some great basketball and holding on in the West Division (10-4) with a three-game winning streak. Grambling State (7-2) with a two-game winning streak and Southern Universities (7-2) with a four-game winning streak are in a two-way tie for first place in the SWAC. Texas Southern and Alabama State Universities are closing in at (6-3) in league play and tie for second place. The MEAC is still in a two-way battle at the top with Norfolk State University (5-2) and North Carolina Central University (5-2) in league play. There is only one game that separates Howard, Morgan State, and South Carolina State Universities.
The HBCU All-Stars Tour continued in New York and New Jersey, where I visited the NBA office for a once-in-a-lifetime tour and did some cross-promotion for the NBA with the HBCU Classic featuring Winston Salem State and Virginia Union Universities during NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. I also attended the Michael B. Jordan Legacy Classic in Newark, New Jersey featuring Grambling State, Jackson State, Howard, and Hampton Universities. To close out the HBCU All-Stars Tour, I witnessed the New York Knicks versus Los Angeles Lakers game live in Madison Square Garden, where three of the most legendary HBCU and NBA players’ jerseys are hanging from the rafters. Dr. Dick Barnett, Tennessee State University, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Winston Salem State University, and Willis Reed, Grambling State University, paved the way for the HBCU All-Stars Movement and we will continue honoring their legendary careers and impact on the great game of college and NBA basketball around the world.”
HBCU All-Stars LLC will honor the illustrious playing careers of Alvin Attles Jr., North Carolina A&T State University (CIAA), John Chaney, Bethune-Cookman University (SIAC), Leonard Eugene “Truck” Robinson, Tennessee State University (Independent), Robert Earl “Bob” Love, Southern University (SWAC), Zelmo “Big Z” Beaty, Prairie View A&M University (SWAC). Each of these amazing HBCU legends made their mark in this great game of basketball and reached the highest level of success in the NBA. We will recognize their impact on our HBCU basketball culture during the 2023-24 basketball season and host the third annual HBCU All-Star Game at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.
The HBCU All-Star Game is far more than a basketball game. HBCU All-Stars LLC will stage the HBCU All-Star Game Experience, a week-long festival that will kick off the week on Tuesday, April 2, and conclude the following Tuesday after the Championship game, April 9. It will celebrate the HBCU Experience and will be highlighted by an HBCU All-Stars College Admissions Fair, Community Outreach and Engagement, Pro Day Combine, Welcome Reception, Awards Ceremony, and Social Justice & Civil Rights panel discussion.
The HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on
